Forspoken Review: A Tricky Game to Recommend

Forspoken, developed by Luminous Productions, has received mixed reviews from critics. On its release day, it debuted with a 68 score on Metacritic, based on 46 critic reviews. While some elements of the game shine, others leave much to be desired.

Combat in Forspoken is visually impressive, but unfortunately, it fails to engage players. The excellent sound design and catchy musical score are often overshadowed by unfunny quips from an unlikable protagonist. The lore of its world is interesting, but it's delivered in a stilted expository manner, which can be frustrating.

One of the most disappointing aspects of Forspoken is the lack of freedom to explore. When players are able to magically sprint across the landscape, it's exhilarating. However, this feeling is quickly dampened by the knowledge that there's nowhere meaningful to go or anything fun to do.

Game Informer's Jordan Ramée summarized his experience with the game, stating, 'I enjoyed parts of it, but too often my fun was dragged to an unrewarding halt.' His sentiments are echoed by other critics who have reviewed Forspoken. For example, GameSpot's review notes that the game tells a largely forgettable story that sets up major stakes but fails to offer a compelling reason for why players should care.
